Educated & Energized NCs Kick Off Effort to Influence City Budget Solutions |

LA Neighborhood Council leaders gathered in Hollywood on Sunday to get briefed on the seriousness of the City’s budget crisis and to plot a course that would garner them a voice in the solutions discussion. The meeting was hosted by the LA Neighborhood Councils Coalition. An energized gathering of 80-plus sardined themselves into the large hall at the Hollywood Constituent Center including representatives from at least 42 neighborhood councils, Councilman Paul Koretz, BONC Commissioner Linda Lucks, DONE GM BongHwan Kim and representatives from the Mayor’s and City Controller’s office. The session opened with a serious dose of budget crisis education that featured a straight talk video featuring Council Budget Chair Barnard Parks and DOT GM Rita Robinson and crisis background analysis by CityWatch Watchdog columnist Jack Humphreville and long-time neighborhood council activist Doug Epperhart. The emergency forum slogged through a considerable period of the requisite opinion fest and then turned the corner and crafted a plan for participating in the budget process and influencing budget solutions.
