 The LA Times reports accused killer Charlie Samuel could have been serving a lengthy prison sentence under alifornia's three-strikes law instead of roaming the streets of Los Angeles but for a clerical error that misstated his criminal record.

In fact, there were two missed opportunities to lock Samuel up for a long stretch and 17-year-old Lily Burk might still be alive.
